Serving residents of the eight towns of Blue Hill peninsula: Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Orland, Penobscot, Sedgwick and Surry communities, the food bank is set up for customers to “shop the aisles” to select their foods. Those in need from other towns may also come on a more limited basis and they will support as best they can. No income verification is required. They accept canned and dry goods, paper goods, personal care items and pet food. Core food donations include canned meat or tuna, pasta, rice, dried and canned beans, peanut butter and jelly, cans/jars of sauce, canned vegetables and fruits, spices, cereal and oatmeal. Egg cartons are also a desired donation as they purchase eggs by the pallet, so donated cartons assist in distribution of eggs to shoppers.
